Bert Bakhuis (1958) studied Dutch law at the University of Amsterdam.
From 1991 until 2015 he was a lawyer and partner at Unger Hielkema lawyers in Amsterdam. Bert Bakhuis dedicated almost all of his first ten years as a lawyer to employment law (both individual and collective) in which is became a specialist. In order to expand his intellectual boundaries, he was placed on the Amsterdam District Court’s list of curators and was appointed curator in bankruptcies for a number of years after which he began to focus more and more on business law.
Bert Bakhuis’s current work is a reflection of the brief biography above. Employment law is still a serious part of his service provision. His knowledge of insolvency law is made full use of by advising businesses facing heavy weather, in re-launches and in negotiation with the curator. He specialises in directors’ and officers’ liability. He advises directors and officers on how to prevent liability from arising. In addition, he holds directors and officers liable for matters such as fraud, illegal proceedings and/or improper management. No legal path is left unexplored in these matters. Bert Bakhuis’s business law practice is wide and varied. He is at home and experienced in the take-over practice. He is a sparring partner for many director and major shareholders and other stakeholders.
In addition to medium-sized businesses – the bulk of his clients – Bert Bakhuis also has a network of clients in the non-profit sector.
Bert has been a partner at bdm advocaten since 1 January 2015.
